Microsoft · November 2025
Renewable energy certificates generated by new distributed solar projects that Powertrust contracts in Mexico and Brazil, supporting Microsoft's commitment to become carbon negative by 2030 and its strategy to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Microsoft lists the agreement in its community-first distributed renewable portfolio in its 18 February 2026 blog post on reaching carbon-negative milestones.
“Microsoft is committed to building a more sustainable future in which communities can prosper.”

Projects behind the certificates
Each project is metered, its generation verified, and its certificates issued in the national registry. The outcomes below are what the developer and the host reported.

Four sites, 238 kW, for a hospital network that sees 700,000 patients a month. Developer: Stella Futura. SDG 3, 5, 7, 13.

7.7 kW solar and battery; electricity from two hours a day to 24, for vaccine storage, oxygen and ultrasound. Developer: Green Empowerment.

The first villages of 50 to be electrified, with revenues supporting productive-use training and asset finance for rice hullers and grain mills. Developer: Hamara Grid.
“Before solar power came in, we were always overwhelmed when we had emergencies that needed oxygen because power from the generator was not enough to run the equipment.”
Winnie Ongom, Clinical Officer, Nyumanzi Health Center, Uganda
